THE MONTPELLIER BOTANICAL GARDEN

ITS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: A PLACE, PEOPLE, AND ACTIONS!

  • A PLACE

Since its creation, Montpellier's Jardin des Plantes has been a place connected to education. Its initial purpose was to teach medical and pharmacy students about medicinal plants. It then became a leading center for botanical research and teaching for health and science students. Today, it is opening up more widely to the general public, young and old alike, through an introduction to botany, raising awareness of biodiversity, in a word, Nature, and more generally, a sensitive approach to the place.

  • ACTORS

We are not alone in this endeavor! Our university garden, which has been structurally linked to the Faculty of Medicine since its inception, is functionally connected not only with the other components of the University of Montpellier, notably the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Pharmacy, but also with numerous external partners : associations, schools offering training in nature management and protection, organizations involved in environmental education, and the Montpellier metropolitan area.

  • ACTIONS

The educational activities of the Jardin are the result of these interactions between the Jardin team and its partners. Thanks to this sharing of resources and skills, the Jardin des Plantes has become a learning environment for all and a place where these fruitful encounters can flourish.

Gardener-Botanist - Educational Advisor

A gardener-botanist for over a dozen years, initially in charge of the botanical school, I now look after the historic section of the Garden, the oldest... and in some ways, for me, the most relevant! Here, I develop collections related to ecology and biodiversity issues. I am also the Garden's educational advisor, and more than anything, I love sharing, so see you soon in the uni'verse!
