A grand ceremony was held to mark the 800th anniversary of the world’s oldest medical school. The event, which combined celebration and camaraderie, brought together faculty, students, university leaders, and local and regional officials.

  • OVERVIEW OF THE CEREMONY

    Presentation of the ceremonial mace and reading of the statutes of the University of Medicine of Montpellier, enacted in 1220:
    The ceremonial mace is carried by the current usher, Eddy Lamou, and presented by Prof. Gérald Chanques, secretary-general and spokesperson for COPIL. The statutes are read by Allan Guilliey, a student, and Prof. Valérie Rigau.
