    • The acquisition of scientific knowledge essential to mastering the knowledge and skills required to practice the profession of midwifery, complementing and building upon those acquired during the previous program.
    • This body of knowledge encompasses basic and biomedical sciences, the humanities and social sciences, public health, and all disciplines necessary for the practice of midwifery, as defined in Article L. 4151-1 of the Public Health Code.
    • The acquisition of practical knowledge and skills during clinical training and internships;
    • Training in the scientific method;

    • Raising awareness of continuous professional development, including the evaluation of professional practices and the ongoing expansion of knowledge.
  • The training provided during the clinical rotations enables students to adopt a clinical approach and develop the professional and transferable skills essential to the practice of midwifery.
    •  It fosters a reflective approach to situations, promotes the development of autonomy, and builds the ability to adapt to complex clinical situations.
    • During their clinical training, students explore the various settings in which midwives practice—both in hospitals and in community settings—and develop their career plans.
    • The choice of internship site is based on the department’s educational mission, the student’s training plan, and the student’s abilities
    • These internships are governed by tripartite internship agreements under which students are subject to the same rules and scheduling requirements as practicing professionals. Students are assigned to the gynecology-obstetrics and pediatrics departments of accredited public and private healthcare facilities both within and outside the region.

Maieutics, Second Cycle, DFASMa1: Assessment Procedures for the 2025–2026 Academic Year

Maieutics, Second Cycle, DFASMa2: Assessment Procedures for the 2025–2026 Academic Year

Advancement to the next year in each cycle (excluding PACES) is subject to evaluation through continuous assessment.

At the end of each academic year, students earn 60 ECTS credits; 180 ECTS credits are required to complete the DFGS in Midwifery, and 120 ECTS credits are required to earn the Master’s degree under the State Diploma program. It should be noted that during the second year of the graduate program, students must complete a mandatory 22-week internship worth 24 ECTS credits in the Gynecology and Obstetrics department of a public healthcare facility, in line with their personal career goals.

To pass a course unit, a student must achieve an overall average of 10/20 or higher. The course unit is then considered definitively passed and counts toward the student’s academic record.

Clinical evaluations are also conducted on an ongoing basis.

Completion of all internships for the year is required for advancement to the next grade level and to earn the State Diploma.
