The ERASMUS+ program allows students tostudy for a semester or an academic year in a European country with which the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine has signed an inter-institutional agreement.
Only students in their second to fourth years (for the first semester of Integrated Module E) of the medical program are eligible for this program.
The trip abroad is being planned 10 months in advance.

The 2025-2026 stage calendar
– On October 13, an information session on international exchanges was held for students in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years (in person for students in Montpellier and via videoconference for students in Nîmes) → Here is the presentation slideshow.
– By January 13, 2026 at the latest: after consulting the List of Erasmus University Programs, interested students submit an Outgoing Application Form 2026-2027 to be sent to med-ri@umontpellier.fr.
– By February 6, 2026 at the latest: Submit a resume to med-ri@umontpellier.fr detailing your academic background and any previous travel abroad, as well as a cover letter in French and English/German/Spanish depending on the destinations requested. Submission of these two documents will allow students to register for the selection interview.
– Early March 2026: Students are invited to aninterview with the Erasmus committee. This interview, conducted in English, Spanish, or German depending on the chosen destination, allows:
– Each student must explain their motivations in detail;
– To the committee responsible for verifying his language skills.
At the end of this interview, students are ranked on a main list and a supplementary list.
– Students fill out an online " Moveon" form. A link will be sent to them. They then register on the host university's website, where deadlines may vary depending on the country.
– Students must draw up their educational contract by April 24, 2026, at the latest. This contract will define all the courses that the student must take and pass under the same conditions as a student at the host faculty. The contract will be signed by the student and will serve as a reference and guarantee, as it does for the home and host faculties.
Scholarships
To complete an unpaid HOSPITAL INTERNSHIP at Montpellier University Hospital as part of Erasmus+ or outside Erasmus+, prospective interns must find an internship position at Montpellier University Hospital: https://www.chu-montpellier.fr/fr/

A medical student studying abroad cannot under any circumstances join medical studies in France during the course of their studies.
A student who is a citizen of the European Union and holds a postgraduate degree in medicine may takethe ECN examin France.
Foreign students may undertake an internship in a hospital setting outside of any regulatory framework. This is an unpaid observation internship.
The University is not involved in this program: students therefore do not need to register with the Faculty of Medicine.
Only the hospital administration is authorized to draw up a hosting agreement and provide students with any certificates they may require.

To practice in France, physicians must meet the three cumulative conditions set out inArticle L. 4111-1of the Public Health Code:
By way of exception, physicians who do not meet all of these cumulative conditions may be authorized to practice medicine by individual order of the Minister of Health.
Takethe ECN at European levelto validate a DES (specialized medical degree).
Each year, around 20 internship positions are available in certain specialties and certain cities.
Takethe ECN as a foreign studentto validate a DES after a 4-year internship (medical disciplines) or 5-year internship (surgery).
This applies to medical specialties, anesthesia and intensive care, medical biology, gynecology and obstetrics, public health, psychiatry, and surgery. Each year, around 20 internship positions are offered in this capacity in the Ile-de-France region, Dijon, Caen, Angers, Nice, Bordeaux, and Toulouse.
The list of positions available in the competitive examination is set by ministerial decree in February, with the application deadline set at the end of March. The eligibility test takes place in September and the admission test in December.
The training includes theoretical instruction and practical internships in hospital departments.
Selection is based on application. Applicants must demonstrate a B2 level of French.
Students have FFI (Faisant Fonction d’Interne) status for the duration of their training.
The number of places available is set for each discipline and specialty by ministerial decree.
Doctors wishing to complete their specialization in France must register BEFORE JANUARY 15 with the French Embassy in their country of origin or, for stateless persons and political refugees, with the University of Strasbourg. An application form must be downloaded and returned to the University of Strasbourg – UFR de Médecine, 4 rue Kirschleger, 67085 Strasbourg, before January 15, for training to begin on November 1.
