An exhibition paying tribute to anatomical collections

The anatomical collections of the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine are a remarkable testament to the methods used to teach anatomy from the late 18th to the mid-20th century, before the advent of "living anatomy" and modern techniques for investigating the human body. Anatomy is a living, dynamic science, constantly evolving, which has now fully entered the digital age for educational and medical purposes.

The Montpellier collection, comprising more than 5,600 items, has a direct link to the research and teaching of its time. It was gradually built up collectively, thanks to students and teachers, and helped to strengthen the identity of the Montpellier medical community. The collections of the former Delmas-Orfila-Rouvière museums, originating from the University of Paris (nearly 8,000 items), were added to this collection in 2014. Thanks to this transfer, the University of Montpellier now has a first-rate heritage collection.

Body to Heart

The anatomy museum at the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine will be closed to the public for several months due to major renovation work.

However, this exceptional scientific and historical heritage will be accessible to the public thanks to the reopening of the exhibition Corps à cœur !

A selection of historical objects and anatomical specimens will be displayed alongside modern medical imaging in the Techné Makré exhibition rooms.

The tour will allow you to (re)discover three themes: the diversity of teaching materials, the description of the human body, and finally, pathologies and therapies. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of medical education in Montpellier and admire a selection of the most remarkable pieces from the anatomy conservatory!
