An exhibition in tribute to the anatomical collections

The anatomical collections of Montpellier's Faculty of Medicine are a remarkable testimony to the way anatomy was taught from the late 18th to the mid-20th century, before the advent of "living anatomy" and modern techniques for investigating the human body. Anatomy is a living, dynamic science that is constantly evolving, and has now fully entered the digital age for both educational and medical purposes.

The Montpellier collection, with over 5,600 items, is directly linked to the research and teaching of its time. It was gradually built up collectively by students and teachers, and has helped to strengthen the identity of the Montpellier medical community. The collections of the former Delmas-Orfila-Rouvière museums, transferred from the University of Paris (nearly 8,000 items), were added to the collection in 2014. Thanks to this transfer, the University of Montpellier now has a first-rate heritage collection.

Corps à Coeur

The Anatomy Conservatory at Montpellier's Faculty of Medicine will be closed to the public for several months due to a major works campaign.

However, this exceptional scientific and historical heritage will be accessible to the public thanks to the reopening of the exhibition Body to Heart !

A selection of historical anatomical objects and exhibits will be displayed in the Techné Makré rooms, alongside current medical imagery.

The tour will enable you to (re)discover 3 themes: the diversity of teaching aids, the description of the human body, and finally pathologies and therapies. It's an opportunity to delve into the history of medical teaching in Montpellier, and to admire a selection of the most remarkable pieces from the anatomy conservatory!
