The speakers

In accordance with the provisions of the modified decree of October 29, 1987, there are two categories of temporary workers in higher education:

  • Temporary lecturers (CEV)

Article 2 of decree no. 87-889 of October 27, 1987, as amended, defines them as: "personalities chosen for their scientific, cultural or professional expertise, who carry out a main professional activity in addition to their teaching duties...". In view of the occasional nature of the teaching activity, and to avoid placing temporary lecturers in a precarious professional and financial situation, temporary lecturing may under no circumstances be carried out as a principal activity.

  • Temporary agents

Article 3 of decree no. 87-889 of October 29, 1987 defines temporary staff as "agents vacataires". They are students enrolled in a 3rd cycle, or persons who have not reached the age limit for civil servants and who are receiving a retirement pension, an early-retirement allowance or a leave of absence, provided that, at the time of termination of their duties, they have exercised a principal professional activity outside the establishment.
