Like the Academy of Medicine, the Academy of Surgery chose to gather at the Faculty of Medicine to celebrate its 800th anniversary.

During the event, the attending surgeons participated in a two-day seminar, with the first day focused on past surgical techniques and the second on current and future surgical practices.

  • HISTORY OF SURGERY

    The first day is dedicated to the history of surgery. In honor of the Faculty of Medicine’s 800th anniversary, the first day highlights the history of surgery—particularly in Montpellier—with several lectures on the leading figures in Montpellier’s surgical history: Gui de Chauliac, François Gigot de Lapeyronie, and Georges Marchal.

  • CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS

    The second day is dedicated to current advancements. Following a focus on surgical robotics, the conference highlights the benefits and limitations of simulation-based learning.
