In a previous article, we introduced you to the brand-newMAP (Montpellier Artistic Project) initiative, in collaboration with the FRAC ( Regional Contemporary Art Fund).

On March 21, the exhibition opening took place, during which we attended:

– The exhibition opened at 5 p.m. The first visitors who had registered to attend the evening event were able to step into the dissection room of the Faculty’s Historic Building—which had never before been open to the public—and thus inaugurate the work of visual artist Sylvain Fraysse.

– The evening continued with remarks by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier; Isabelle Laffont, Dean; Patricia Carette, President of the FRAC; and Céline Mélissent, Director of Public Engagement and Outreach. Also speaking were artist Sylvain Fraysse, MAP President Amance Lagrange and Treasurer Aminata Eldin, followed by Amal Qobaa, Vice President of the University of Montpellier, who concluded the speeches.

The OSEM (Montpellier Student Symphony Orchestra) then performed the theme from the scene in Jean-Luc Godard’s film *Contempt*, which inspired the exhibition.

– Finally, the guests were invited to a cocktail reception accompanied by music from Med’Ley (the Montpellier Health Students’ Music Association)

A close-knit team effort that has resulted in a wonderful project

Thanks to the collaboration of TaM, FRAC, UM, the professors, and especially the MAP association, the exhibition opening was a huge success—more than a hundred people came out to celebrate the event!

This project, led by medical students and aimed at keeping the Faculty’s historic building alive, was also selected to be part of Montpellier’sbid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2028… Awonderful achievement that proves that when we all work together, amazing opportunities can arise!
