signing of the recovery plan

On Monday, March 27, the plan to safeguard the BH’s works in the event of a disaster was signed in the presence of Kléber Mesquida, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hérault Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS), Comptroller General Éric Flores, Director of SDIS34, Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, Isabelle Lafont, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and members of the fire department.

What is this about?

Established in August 2022 by the Ministry of Culture, the PSBC (Plan for the Safeguarding of Cultural Property) is an operational and organizational document made available to emergency response personnel and agencies, enabling the effective implementation of measures to protect cultural heritage and a coordinated response in crisis and emergency situations. It takes into account a wide range of hazards, such as floods, fires, and earthquakes…

Each institution has its own PSBC, but the framework always includes: a list of priority items to be evacuated, a map showing access points and means of access to these works, priority areas to be protected, emergency assembly areas, storage locations… as well as the procedure for activating the plan, the people to be notified, and a crisis management section (teams, tasks…).

A long-term project

Implementing this plan requires extensive coordination given the large number of stakeholders involved; it involves numerous steps, such as gathering information about the building, prioritizing assets, creating asset records, compiling a list of rescue equipment needed for protection or evacuation (cutters, suction cups, debris removal equipment, etc.), identifying personnel resources, and so on.It is therefore a very time-consuming process carried out in collaboration with the fire and rescue department—one that takes months, or even a year, when factoring in the time required for drafting—but it is obviously well worth the effort.
