Orientation Day for DES1 DUMG Residents at the Montpellier-Nîmes School of Medicine!

On Thursday, November 14, the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine welcomed the Agnes McLaren class—comprising 136 new interns, as well as the 7 in General Practice—for an orientation day organized by the University Department of General Practice (DUMG).

The day began at 8:30 a.m. in the UPM auditorium with opening remarks by Dean Isabelle Laffont and DUMG Director David Costa; Dr. Bénédicte Teisserenc and Dr. Marie-Catherine Reboul then outlined the day’s objectives and schedule.

The interns, divided into eight teams—each wearing a different-colored sweatshirt—took part in a scavenger hunt to explore key locations on campus and learn about the school’s history, and they completed a short quiz. The supervisors wore yellow so they could be easily identified.

Four stages lay ahead of them:

  • A "mindfulness walk" at the Jardin des Plantes, led by Professor Tran and his team, gave participants the opportunity to try mindfulness exercises in a peaceful setting.
  • "Olympics" at the School of Pharmacy
  • Information on the "Master's in General Medicine"
  • A tour of the Historic Building (Old Faculty) to explore “The History of the Montpellier-Nîmes School of Medicine”

After a lunch break, the teams continued their exploration to complete all the stages, combining group work with opportunities for discussion.

The day continued with a gathering at UPM, where the Medley association welcomed participants with a musical performance.

Finally, to wrap up the day, all the speakers and interns gathered in the UPM auditorium for the awards ceremony.
