New Logo: 4/5 The Redesign of the Carémeau Health Website: A Look at Recent Developments

A little over a year ago, on February 8, 2023, the Nîmes Faculty of Medicine began its expansion and renovation project. It was inaugurated in 1972 under the leadership of Dean Bénézech, who was the first Dean of the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty, and Professor Harant, who was one of the first faculty members in Nîmes. After several years of construction, the site’s expansion now serves three major objectives: expansion, development, and diversification, in order to provide an optimal environment for education, patient care, and health research.

Designed by Lyon-based architect Nicolas C. Guillot, the new building subtly evokes a tissue reticulum thanks to its metal mesh, which acts as a sunshade on the south side and defines the structure’s overall appearance. Its design draws on the theme of the epidermis. The exterior colors are inspired by the site’s natural tones: light ochre and stone tones for the plaster, light gray for the metalwork, and natural wood for the cladding.

Beyond architectural considerations, the expansion and renovation of the site have made it possible to adopt a modern educational approach. The new simulation training center, SimHU Nîmes, marks a significant step forward in the training of future healthcare professionals. Covering an area of 1,000 square meters, this center features 10 pre-equipped simulation rooms, allowing students to immerse themselves in realistic medical scenarios before facing them in a clinical setting.

This expansion added 1,434 square meters of floor space and renovated an additional 1,336 square meters, including the creation of 17 new classrooms and 3 lecture halls, thereby fostering an environment conducive to learning. In addition, a student lounge covering more than 200 m² was created, along with a 1,000 m² outdoor pine grove, offering students a place to relax and socialize.

The expansion and renovation of the Nîmes Faculty of Medicine campus represent a true transformation, providing a state-of-the-art educational environment and a welcoming setting for students and healthcare professionals, thereby contributing to the appeal and excellence of medical education in the region.
