The third edition of the Agnes McLaren Medicine Prize 2025 is now open! Application deadline: end of April 2025.

The third edition of the Agnes McLaren Medicine Prize is finally open. This prestigious prize, worth €4,000, pays tribute to Agnes McLaren, the first woman to graduate from the Faculty of Medicine in Montpellier in 1878. She dedicated her life to supporting women by fighting to improve their health and rights.

Agnes McLaren, born in Scotland, made medical history by becoming one of the first women to enter this traditionally male-dominated field. Her commitment to improving the lives of women, particularly those in precarious situations, continues to inspire current generations. She devoted herself to supporting the most vulnerable, advocating for equitable access to healthcare and fundamental rights.

This prize is open to medical students at the Faculties of Montpellier and Nîmes who are defending their thesis between April 2023 and the end of April 2025. It rewards a thesis in medicine focusing on the health of women and/or children in precarious and/or vulnerable situations and funds work based on this thesis (post-thesis project).

Applications are open until the end of April 2025. Interested students can find full details on eligibility criteria and the selection process by visiting the Agnes McLaren Association website at www.agnes-mclaren.org, or by sending an email to: agnesmclaren@free.fr.
