The 3rd edition of the 2025 Agnes McLaren Medical Prize is now open! Application deadline: late April 2025.

The call for entries for the third edition of the Agnes McLaren Medical Prize has finally been launched. This prestigious prize, worth 4,000 euros, honors Agnes McLaren, the first woman to graduate with a medical degree from the Montpellier School of Medicine in 1878. She dedicated her life to supporting women by fighting to improve their health and rights.

Agnes McLaren, a native of Scotland, made her mark on the history of medicine by becoming one of the first women to enter this field, which had traditionally been reserved for men. Her commitment to improving the lives of women, particularly those in vulnerable situations, continues to inspire current generations. She dedicated herself to supporting the most vulnerable, advocating for equitable access to healthcare and fundamental rights.

This award is open to medical students at the Faculty of Montpellier and Nîmes who will defend their dissertations between April 2023 and the end of April 2025. The award recognizes a medical dissertation focusing on the health of women and/or children in precarious and/or vulnerable situations and provides funding for a project based on that dissertation (post-dissertation project).

Applications are open until the end of April 2025. Interested students can find full details on eligibility criteria and the selection process by visiting the Agnes McLaren Association’s website at www.agnes-mclaren.org, or by sending an email to agnesmclaren@free.fr.
