Preventing and taking action: students trained to better understand sexual violence.

The Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine is launching a new two-hour training course for second-year medical students. Led by Carine Bécamel, a specialist teacher in gender-based and sexual violence and a neurobiologist, accompanied by Dr. Laurent Martrille, a forensic scientist and legal expert, and Dr. Olivier Mathieu, a toxicologist and legal expert, the main objective of this training course is to inform students about the steps to take in the event of sexual assault.

In addition, it aims to raise participants' awareness of the importance of early biological sampling in such situations, as well as the harmful consequences of excessive consumption of psychoactive substances.

To illustrate these points, concrete examples of court cases involving rape or sexual assault were presented. These cases helped explain to students the often difficult journey victims go through, as well as the principles of a trial in the Assize Court.
