A look back at the commemoration of November 11, 1918

The Faculty of Medicine paid tribute to its deceased members during a ceremony held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in the Atrium of the historic building. This moment of reflection, marked by remembrance and respect, is part of the tradition of commemorating the Armistice of November 11, 1918.

The ceremony began at 12:45 p.m. Ms. Isabelle Laffont, Dean of the Faculty, opened the event with a speech emphasizing the importance of remembrance, particularly for an institution such as ours, whose history is deeply linked to that of the country.

Three biographies of medical students who died in combat were then presented:

  • Pierre Benoît, intern at the Avignon maternity ward, whose research focused on repeat cesarean sections. The reading was given by Juan Pujol, Vice Dean of Students.

  • Paul Raynal, originally from Vergèze and buried in his hometown. His tribute was read by Victorine Rech, president of Corpo Crocos, representing the Nîmes site.

  • Maurice Raymond, born and buried in Sète. His biography was presented by Raphaël Brun, president of Corpo ACM, representing the Montpellier site.

The wreaths were laid by, among others:

  • Mathys Dubel, representing the student body, alongside the Dean;

  • Cédrine Combis, student representative, accompanied by Mr. Eddy Lamou, Dean's usher.

At the end of this moment, the Dean began the minute of silence with the command, "To the dead!"

The Montpellier Student Symphony Orchestra (OSEM) then performed the piece "Aux Morts!" (To the Dead!), followed by a moment of silence and then the national anthem in its version rewritten for chamber orchestra. The flag bearers accompanied these solemn moments with their movements, showing deep respect for the deceased.

The ceremony ended with a speech by the Dean, who thanked everyone present and invited the audience to share a buffet lunch.
