A look back at the commemoration of November 11, 1918

The Faculty of Medicine paid tribute to its deceased at a ceremony held on Wednesday November 12, 2025 in the Atrium of the historic building. This moment of remembrance and respect was in keeping with the tradition of commemorating the Armistice of November 11, 1918.

The ceremony began at 12.45pm. Isabelle Laffont, Dean of the Faculty, opened the event with a speech recalling the importance of the duty to remember, particularly for an institution such as ours, whose history is profoundly linked to that of the country.

Three biographies of fallen medical students were then presented:

  • Pierre Benoît, an intern at the Avignon maternity hospital, whose research focused on iterative caesarean sections. The lecture was given by Juan Pujol, Vice-Dean of Students.

  • Paul Raynal, a native of Vergèze, was buried in his home town. His tribute was read by Victorine Rech, president of Corpo Crocos, representing the Nîmes site.

  • Maurice Raymond, born and buried in Sète. His biography was presented by Raphaël Brun, President of Corpo ACM, representing the Montpellier site.

The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by :

  • Mathys Dubel, representing the student community, alongside the Dean;

  • Cédrine Combis, student representative, accompanied by Mr Eddy Lamou, the Dean's usher.

At the end of this moment, the Dean launched the minute's silence with the injunction "Aux Morts!

TheOrchestre Symphonique des Étudiants de Montpellier (OSEM) then played "Aux Morts!", followed by a moment of silence and the national anthem in its rewritten version for chamber orchestra. The flag-bearers accompanied these solemn moments with their movements, marking their deep respect for the fallen.

The ceremony ended with a speech by the Dean, who thanked all those present and invited the audience to share a buffet lunch.
