Starting your first year of health studies can seem daunting, both because of the high demands of the program and the many stereotypes surrounding it. That’s why the mentoring program is there to support students throughout the year, from the pre-semester orientation to the oral exams.

The pre-semester orientation is an excellent opportunity to get your bearings, learn how the academic year works, and become familiar with the various course units. It takes place on the three campuses—Arnaud de Villeneuve, Carémeau, and Flahault—in collaboration with the various tutoring programs (ATSM, TSN, and ATP, respectively).

Why participate in the back-to-school workshop?

For PASS holders:

This internship offers a first taste of higher education. It gives students the opportunity to explore the college environment, meet other students, and make the transition from high school to their first year of college.

The program offers an introductory overview of first-semester courses to help students approach them with greater confidence later on. Sessions on chemistry and biochemistry, genomics and genetics, cell biology, human and general physiology, humanities and social sciences, and medications and other health products will be led by tutors—third-year health sciences students. During these sessions, PASS students will have the opportunity to learn about and practice multiple-choice questions (MCQs), the format used in the vast majority of exams throughout the year. To conclude the workshop, a pop quiz will be held on the last day. This initial practice session allows students to familiarize themselves with the conditions of a PASS exam, including the exam format, time limits, testing locations, and grading criteria.

In addition to the educational aspect, students will have the opportunity to ask the mentors questions about the coming year… Since the mentors are students in healthcare programs, they have gone through this challenging year and will be able to share their own experiences.

First-year students will also receive guidance on study methods to help them discover their own approach to learning. In addition, wellness advice will be provided to help them better navigate this year: student well-being is a top priority for our tutoring program. Finally, students will receive an explanation of the REES (*Reform for Entry into Health Studies).

To participate in this workshop, you must first be enrolled in the tutoring program, which is free. The SPR, on the other hand, costs 17.50 euros for PASS students (cost of handouts).

For LAS:

This workshop allows students enrolled in the LAS program to become familiar with their health minor. Students will gain an introductory understanding of General Human Physiology, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Medications and Other Health Products during sessions led by qualified tutors. During these sessions, LAS students will learn about and practice multiple-choice questions (MCQs), the format used in the vast majority of exams throughout the year. To conclude the course, a practice exam is held on the last day. This initial practice session allows students to experience the actual exam conditions, including the multiple-choice question formats, the time allotted, and the grading criteria.

They will also be able to learn about tutoring and how it works.

To participate in this workshop, you must first be enrolled in the tutoring program, which is free. The SPR is completely free for LAS students.
