Educational visits for residents of UNAPEI 34 homes to the botanical garden

The Jardin des Plantes de Montpellier and Unapei 34 are joining forces to offer residents of the Beaurevoir homes an experience in the heart of nature. Through five educational visits, these scheduled visits from January to May 2025 will take place either within the Jardin des Plantes or within the home if it has a garden or vegetable patch. This initiative aims to raise participants' awareness of biodiversity and gardening practices while promoting their social inclusion.

Unapei 34 is an association that supports people with mental or psychological disabilities. This partnership with the Jardin des Plantes allows 20 residents to take part in visits supervised by professionals.

Two themes are proposed:

  • The vegetable garden, supervised by Jean-François Fauveau, assistant head gardener at the Jardin.
  • Biodiversity, with Denis Nespoulous, biodiversity expert, who will accompany residents to different areas of the Garden.

These visits will take place from Tuesday to Saturday and will be supervised by an educational instructor from Unapei 34 as well as professionals from the Jardin des Plantes.

This initiative is based on a strong desire for inclusion and accessibility. Far from being simple visits, these encounters allow residents to familiarize themselves with plants, experiment with gardening, and better understand environmental issues. It is an opportunity to strengthen their independence and well-being.

The partnership between the Jardin des Plantes and Unapei 34 could well be a long-term one. At the end of the year, an assessment will be carried out to evaluate the impact of these visits and consider their continuation in the years to come.
