A partnership between the Jardin des Plantes and the Clinique de La Lironde to support vulnerable populations

As part of its educational initiatives aimed at vulnerable populations, the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier has entered into an agreement with the specialized facility Clinique de La Lironde.

This program involves several visits between the two institutions by patients and is part of horticultural therapy, a holistic therapeutic approach that uses gardens, gardening, and interaction with plants to improve physical, mental, and social well-being.

The first tour took place on January 21 at the Jardin des Plantes, focusing on the garden’s architectural heritage. Additional tours have already been scheduled.

Each theme of the garden tour is linked to a corresponding workshop at the clinic:

  • The Jardin des Plantes’ real estate portfolio: in connection with “Mon repaire” (reclaiming one’s home) and “Palpitants” (Art, in partnership with the Moco/Panacée)

  • The Permaculture Edible Garden: in conjunction with the “Gourmandises” (food) and “ABS” (holistic health) workshops

  • The School of Systematics and Medicinal Plants: related to “4M” (medicinal treatments) and “Morphée” (sleep)

  • The Cactus Greenhouse: linked to “My Haven” and “Testimonials” (institutional and symbolic framework)

  • Biodiversity across 5 hectares: linked to “Testimonials” and “Ethically Yours”

  • The Garden at Night: Related to “Palpitants” and “Témoignages”

The Clinique de La Lironde, a general psychiatric facility operated by the Emeis Group and located in Saint-Clément-de-Rivière, offers a program called “Parcours Équilibre,” consisting of two to three daily workshops focused on health promotion and based on P. Deegan’s theory of recovery.
