years of history

Celebrating its 800th anniversary on August 17, 2020, the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine is the oldest medical school in the world. Medical education in Montpellier originated from clinical practice, outside of any institutional framework, in the early 12th century. Having been home to some of the greatest figures in history—including Rabelais, Lapeyronie, Jeanbrau, and Loubatières—the Faculty continues to this day to fulfill its mission of training the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, while remaining at the forefront of the latest medical technologies.
