Last September, slam poet/rapper Mathias Montoya, known by his stage name Maras (runner-up in the world freestyle rap championships), joined the artist residency program called "Cordes invisibles" (Invisible Strings) at the University Institute of Technology in Nîmes and at the Nîmes campuses of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Medicine.

The artist residency project

Throughout the year, the artist offered poetry tours, compliment battles, improvisations, concerts, musical creations, and more. He also led writing and recitation workshops, beatbox workshops, and masterclasses. The aim of his work was to enable students who wished to do so to practice musical writing and public speaking, which helped them to improve their self-confidence, creativity, and eloquence. This exchange enabled the artist to create songs, texts, and performances based on his encounters with members of the university community.

With his work coming to an end last April, numerous events were organized to mark this adventure in style!

A farewell worth celebrating!

Three events marked the end of this collaboration:

  • A battle of compliments
  • An open stage for poetry
  • A concert featuring Alexhino and JAM

With the support of DRAC Occitanie and in partnership with Paloma, contemporary music venue in Nîmes metropolitan area.
