Primavera 2024, the festival of rare plants!

On Sunday March 24, 2024, boulevard Henri IV played host to the 19th edition of Primavera, the annual celebration of rare plants and the defense of biodiversity. This unique event took place in the setting of France's oldest Jardin des Plantes.

Nurserymen, environmental associations, specialist book publishers, visual artists, agricultural schools and lecturers gathered at the Jardin des Plantes to take part in this great celebration. With 46 nurserymen from all over the south of France, including 10 new ones in front of the Orangerie, as well as 13 environmental associations, 3 specialist publishers and 3 illustrating artists, visitors were welcomed by a variety of exciting exhibitors.

Despite a windy day, nearly 7,000 visitors gathered to explore the many stands and activities on offer at this edition of Primavera.

From its beginnings as a plant festival, this event has evolved to become a not-to-be-missed event for botanical enthusiasts and environmentalists alike.

This year, visitors were spoilt for choice among the exhibitors, and in addition to nurserymen and associations, two themed exhibitions drew particular attention. The first, entitled "Climat et Biodiversité, c'est chaud!" (Climate and Biodiversity, it's hot!) provided a better understanding of the impacts of climate change on biodiversity, thanks to an educational and interactive approach. The second exhibition, "The Botanical Gardens of Padua and Montpellier", offered an insight into the history and links between these two emblematic botanical institutions.

Last but not least, the lectures offered by the Institut de Botanique drew a full house. From a behind-the-scenes look at the Jardin des Plantes to an exploration of the challenges posed by climate change, via the fascinating history of botany and medicine in Montpellier, the speakers shared their expertise and passion with the public.

We look forward to seeing you next year as spring arrives, for the 20th edition.
