A look back at the 5th edition of the SPES training course - Primary Care Environment and Health

On September 25, 2025, the Faculté de Médecine de Montpellier hosted the 5th edition of the SPES (Soins Primaires Environnement et Santé) training course in the heart of its historic building. This year's theme was " My life, my territory ", and the day brought together teacher-researchers, healthcare professionals, institutions and partner associations, to reflect together on the intersecting issues of health, the environment and healthcare organization.

A morning of scientific and institutional presentations

After a warm welcome over coffee, the opening plenary session was given by Pr Béatrice Lognos and Pr François Carbonnel, both PUMGs, before Dr Jean-Baptiste Tostain, CCUMG, presented the program.

The morning continued with several presentations:

  • Dr Pierre Souvet, lecturer, on environmental health issues,
  • Dr Jean-Baptiste Bonnet, PHU, on endocrine disruptors and PFAS,
  • Pr Philippe Serayet, PAMG, and Dr Véronique Mondain, PH, on the topic of antibiotic resistance and the One Health vision,
  • Élodie Plancque from ARS (Agence Régionale de Santé) for a territorial diagnosis as part of PRSE3.

These conferences opened the debate on the close links between environment, territorial organization and public health, through complementary and multidisciplinary approaches.

The break at the end of the morning gave way to a forum bringing together several key players in the health and environment ecosystem: FECOP, MedVallée, URPS, ASEF and Human Santé. This forum provided an opportunity for speakers, healthcare professionals and students to meet, promote local initiatives and strengthen collaborations.

In the early afternoon, a number of institutional figures took the floor:

  • Prof. Isabelle Laffont, Dean of the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine,
  • Ms Betty Zumbo from ARS, Deputy Director of Public Health in charge of Prevention Policy and Head of the Environmental Health Unit,
  • and Pr François Carbonnel, PUMG.

Their speeches highlighted the importance of territorial anchoring in public health policies, and the need to implement concrete, sustainable actions in the face of environmental challenges.

The day ended with a series ofworkshops, giving participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and compare practices around concrete cases.

The Faculté de Médecine de Montpellier-Nîmes warmly thanks all speakers, partners and participants for their involvement and the rich exchanges that marked this 5th edition.
