A look back at the 5th edition of the SPES training course – Primary Care, Environment, and Health

On September 25, 2025, the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine hosted the fifth edition of the SPES ( Primary Care, Environment, and Health) training program in its historic building. This year's theme , " My Life, My Territory," brought together teachers, researchers, healthcare professionals, institutions, and partner associations to reflect on the interrelated challenges of health, the environment, and healthcare organization.

A morning punctuated by scientific and institutional presentations

After a warm welcome over coffee, the opening plenary session was led by Prof. Béatrice Lognos and Prof. François Carbonnel, both from PUMG, followed by a presentation of the program by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Tostain, CCUMG.

The morning continued with several presentations:

  • Dr. Pierre Souvet, lecturer on environmental health issues,
  • Dr. Jean-Baptiste Bonnet, PHU, on endocrine disruptors and PFAS,
  • Prof. Philippe Serayet, PAMG, and Dr. Véronique Mondain, PH , on the topic of antibiotic resistance and the One Health vision,
  • Ms. Élodie Plancque from the ARS (Regional Health Agency) for a regional assessment as part of the PRSE3.

These conferences opened up the debate on the close links between the environment, territorial organization, and public health, through complementary and multidisciplinary approaches.

The mid-morning break gave way to a forum bringing together several key players in the health and environment ecosystem: FECOP, MedVallée, URPS, ASEF, and Human Santé. This space for discussion encouraged encounters between speakers, healthcare professionals, and students, promoting local initiatives and strengthening collaborations.

In the early afternoon, several institutional figures took the floor:

  • Professor Isabelle Laffont, Dean of the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine,
  • Ms. Betty Zumbo of the ARS, Deputy Director of Public Health in charge of Prevention Policy and Head of the Health and Environment Division,
  • and Professor François Carbonnel, PUMG.

Their contributions highlighted the importance of a local focus in public health policies and the need to implement concrete and sustainable actions in response to environmental challenges.

The day ended with a seriesof workshops, offering participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and compare their practices using concrete examples.

The Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier-Nîmes would like to warmly thank all the speakers, partners, and participants for their involvement and the rich discussions that marked this 5th edition.
