painting by Fragonard: the kiss on the sly

The subject of sexual and sexist violence has never been so present since #balanceyourpig, as hypersexualized society imposes its codes of sexual freedom but also of performance in this area. How, under the injunction to be sexually very active, can we find our own limits and those of others? In representations, sexual violence is either denied or associated with the most atrocious events, whereas in reality it is more commonplace and more frequent.

It's easy to understand sexual assault when physical coercion is involved. It's more complex when there's psychological coercion, in a controlling relationship, or under the guise of group pressure at a party. Is the concept of consent always easy to understand? What is the gray zone? How do you act as a victim, or even as a "simple" witness?

That's why the Montpellier Nîmes medical school has set up a two-hour training course for second-year medical students, run by Dr. BAIS Céline, a psychiatrist, and Ms. Teillard-Dirat, a psychologist from the CRIAVS-LR (Centre Ressource pour les Intervenants auprès des Auteurs de Violence Sexuelle Languedoc-Roussillon) team.

The aim is not only to raise students' awareness of sexual violence, but also to help them understand the capacity to consent, relationships of power or authority, social or group pressure and the representations surrounding the phenomenon.

Theoretical presentations, exchanges of experience and instructional videos provided the backdrop for this essential reminder via compulsory teaching.
