5 tips for working from home

, , ,

With the lockdown duethe Covid-19 health crisis, most of our routines have been turned upside down. To help you adapt to working from home or distance learning, here are 5 tips to try!

1 – Set yourself a schedule

To stay productive when working from home, you need to plan your time! Setting an alarm and giving yourself daily and weekly goals are important steps to take to stay on track! Having a clear idea of the tasks you need to accomplish each day and allocating a set amount of time to each one will help you structure your workday. To help you, we've even prepared a schedule that you can print out and customize yourself! This system works just as well for projects with deadlines as it does for exam revision. Setting goals and sticking to them is the key to efficiency.

2 – Setting up your own workspace

Working from home isn't always easy, as there are many distractions. Rather than working in front of the TV or from your bed, it's better to create a dedicated space. Set up your own office, a place where you only go to work and where you feel comfortable. Computer, paper, pens, a plant—have everything you need everything that could be useful for your work! You can also keep a small object nearby to keep your hands busy during your brainstorming sessions, whether it's a pen for doodling on paper or a stress ball to squeeze!

3 – Staying in touch with these colleagues

It's easy to feel lonely or overwhelmed when working remotely! Staying in regular contact with your colleagues will not only allow you to interact with other people, but also motivate each other! This is essential for those who have to carry out team projects. Schedule regular debriefings to review everyone's progress and keep a group chat open at all times so you can respond to emergencies or answer questions.

4 – Separate your professional and personal life

Is there anything complicated about staying at home? Distinguishing between your professional and personal life. You are at home, surrounded by your family, but also at your workplace. The first thing to do is to put yourself in a working mindset. You wouldn't go to the office in your pajamas, so when you get up in the morning, have breakfast, do a little exercise, and get dressed before settling down at your teleworking station. Also, let your family and friends know your working hours so that they disturb you as little as possible during those times.

5 – Take breaks

Don't stay focused on your classes or your computer all day long. To keep up the pace, you need to take breaks. At university or at work, you probably take breaks from time to time, so do the same at home! Folding your laundry, drinking a coffee on your terrace or by the window, or simply doing nothing on your sofa will help you clear your mind. Getting back to work will be easier because your mind will be clear. So don't feel guilty about taking breaks! It's normal to want to move around a bit, especially when you're at home all day, and it will help you refocus.
