As they do every summer, the tutoring associations at the University of Montpellier (Montpellier Health Tutoring Association, Pharmacy Tutors Association, Nîmes Health Tutoring) organize a Pre-Semester Workshop to help PASS and LAS students prepare as thoroughly as possible. This initiative aims to ease the transition into the academic year through introductory courses and guidance on study methods, while also promoting well-being and social life.

The SPR: An Asset for the Year Ahead

Participating in the SPR makes it easier to settle into the academic year. In fact, we offer both coursework and study skills sessions that help students avoid being caught off guard by the way work is organized in the PASS or LAS programs.

  • SPR PASS runs from Monday, August 22, through Saturday, September 3.
SPR LAS runs from Monday, August 29, through Wednesday, August 31.

The Pre-School Year Workshop for PASS Students

For PASS students in the 2022/2023 academic year, the SPR takes place in person at the three campuses: Arnaud de Villeneuve (ATSM), Flahault (ATP), and Carémeau (TSN). The registration fee is €15, which coversthe cost of printing the handouts that will be distributed during the course. You must first register for the tutoring program, which is free and available year-round via the form accessible under the STUDIES AND TRAINING tab → PASS – LAS → TUTORING.

The SPR continues to be highly popular among students, the overwhelming majority of whom believe that the internship was beneficial to them, as shown in the statistics below!

All of our tutor teams are committed to making this orientation program both enjoyable and very useful for the rest of the year. It’s also a great way to get a feel for life at the university and to form study groups for the rest of the year!

Our Back-to-School Camp will take place at three different locations:

  • ATSM: Arnaud de Villeneuve Site: 641 Avenue du Doyen Gaston Giraud, 34090 Montpellier
  • ATP: Flahault Site: 15 Charles Flahault Avenue, 34090 Montpellier
  • TSN: Carémeau Site: 186 Chemin du Carreau de Lanes, 30900 Nîmes

The Pre-School Year Workshop for LAS Students

For LAS students in the 2022–2023 academic year, this is an online program conducted via virtual meetings onZoom®, in order to ensure equal opportunities across all LAS tracks. The SPR LAS is free but also requires prior registration for the tutoring program.

The SPR is a great way for students to understand the LAS's expectations , while feeling supported by an association that will be a strong ally, standing by their side throughout the year.

#ProudOfOurStudents – It's in the News!

Despite the announcement of the lockdown, the Faculty’s student organizations managed to support our students through this difficult time by organizing some wonderful initiatives throughout the month of November. Check out the November edition of the student organization recap!

Let's celebrate the mustache!

The month of November is often associated with Movember, a movement dedicated to raising awareness about men's health issues.

Our organizations got involved and shared photos of their best mustaches on social media while raising awareness about prostate cancer!

Positivity goes hand in hand with activity!

We can't say it enough: exercise is good for your health! The ASMM understands this well and offers twice-weekly workout sessions on Zoom to stay connected with its members—which is essential for preventing isolation.

Studying and taking classes at home require good organization in order to achieve one’s goals. The ASMM’s live yoga sessions and the AMESF’s positive messages have supported our students in this new way of working by providing them with a burst of positive energy.

Actions Taken!

The organization Les Crocos du Monde was able to participate in the outreach efforts organized by Samu Solidaire to help the most disadvantaged and the homeless by providing them with a hot meal and, quite simply, a little comfort.

November also marked National No-Smoking Month. AMESF took part in this initiative by launching an awareness campaign on the risks of smoking during pregnancy.

Your tutorials—there for you now more than ever

Finally, we’ll conclude this article by highlighting the continuity of services so admirably provided by your tutoring teams, who never faltered in their mission during the lockdown. By offering online tutoring sessions, remote study groups, and even a virtual library, your tutors have once again demonstrated their creativity in supporting our PASS and PACES students as they prepare for their first-semester exams!

In addition, the tutors organized information-sharing sessions and a “parent tutoring” conference to support the parents of prospective PASS students. This initiative was greatly appreciated by the 50 families who attended this virtual event.

Upcoming event: the Tutoscars, mock exams organized by the UM’s three talented health tutoring groups— ATSM, TSN, and ATP—on December 5 and 19 for PACES and PASS students.

Once again, our student organizations have made us proud of them, their initiatives, and our students. Stay tuned to learn more about their initiatives this December! #ProudOfOurStudents

Earlier this week , we met with the CNESF, the association for the midwifery program in Nîmes. We’re staying in Nîmes today for our meeting with Matthias Daudé, the new president of TSN!

In a nutshell, what is Tutorat Santé Nîmois?

TSN (Tutorat Santé Nîmes) is an association made up of second- and third-year medical and midwifery students at the Nîmes campus. We have all successfully passed the entrance exam for health studies, and drawing on this experience, we offer support to students entering their first year of a health-track program (PASS/LAS).

What activities or initiatives do you organize throughout the year?

Throughout the year, students are offered weekly practice sessions in the form of multiple-choice quizzes, during which tutors provide detailed feedback on the quizzes, share memory techniques, offer study tips, and provide support in preparing for exams. All sessions are reviewed by the subject instructors to ensure they remain closely aligned with the requirements of the final exams.

In addition, we are organizing a pre-school-year workshop during the last two weeks of August. During these two weeks, we’ll cover the first-semester curriculum while providing as much guidance as possible on how to approach this challenging academic year.

We also offer practice tests and mock exams to help students prepare as thoroughly as possible through realistic practice, using questions that have been reviewed by professors.

What made you decide to join the organization?

When I started my health studies, I wasn’t familiar with tutoring. At the university, I quickly heard about the organization and the support it offers. So I went to a session and immediately saw all the benefits this organization could provide me.

After passing the PACES entrance exam and enrolling in a health sciences program, I wanted to join the tutoring program to share my personal experience from my first year. I wanted to help as many students as possible make progress so they could achieve their dreams. It felt natural to me to do everything I could to give back everything I received during my first year, because without the tutoring program, I would never have passed that exam.

What does the association offer students?

The TSN provides PACES students with genuine academic support through practice sessions and Q&A sessions, as well as moral support through the organization of student activities. We also have a mentoring program in which second- and third-year students take first-year students under their wing to guide them toward success.

Why do you think people should join your organization?

Our association offers a wide range of services, including both educational and personal support, to help everyone make progress toward passing the entrance exams for the second year of health studies.

How do I sign up?

The tutoring program is completely free! To join the tutoring program, simply follow the registration instructions, which will be posted on our social media accounts and on the faculty’s registration page.

A few words about the 2020–2021 executive board?

For the TSN association, the election of the executive board takes place in two phases.

It all begins with the formation of the Executive Committee (BR). Once the candidates for the BR have been nominated, a campaign period begins during which the various teams present their plans for the year. This year, due to the health crisis, all elections and campaigns took place online. Once the campaigns are over, all second- and third-year tutors elect a BR, which will then organize the elections for the other positions on the Executive Board.

Once all positions have been announced by the BR, each mentor who wishes to serve on the executive board submits a candidacy for the position. The candidacy period lasts one week. After this campaign period, the BR organizes a vote for the positions with multiple candidates.

You can now find us on our social media channels!

To wrap things up, we’d like to share a video we created in collaboration with the three health tutoring organizations in Montpellier: the Montpellier Health Tutoring Association (ATSM), the Association of Pharmacy Tutors (ATP), and us, the Nîmes Health Tutoring Association (TSN)!
