After Othofaso a few days ago, it's time for ASMM, the student sports association of Montpellier Medicine! Today we meet Amandine, vice-president in charge of communications, who tells us all about it!

Can you tell us a little about your association? What is your objective?

The Association Sportive Médecine Montpellier (ASMM ) was created some ten years ago with the aim of promoting sporting activities among medical students in a friendly atmosphere. While this objective has remained unchanged over the years, ASMM has been able to evolve, notably by integrating PACES (future PASS-LAS) and midwifery students. Our association enables healthcare students to renew their interest in sport, often neglected during their studies, in a relaxed and convivial way. These moments are all the more important for PACES/PASS/LAS students, who are under considerable pressure in the run-up to their competitive examination. The whole team is on hand to provide moral support and a friendly outlet. This year's plan is to open up membership to other health disciplines, in particular to physiotherapy and dental students.

What activities do you carry out throughout the year? Can you tell us about them?

Throughout the year, we organize two sessions a week, one dedicated solely to PACES/PASS/LAS students and the second to medical and maieutic students. The content of our sessions varies according to the needs of our members. Sessions often include endurance and muscle-strengthening exercises, as well as a more fun element involving team sports such as ULTIMATE.

We also organize extra-curricular activities: canoeing, beach volleyball, trampoline, pétanque, laser game, indoor soccer...

Why and how to join your association?

Membership of our association gives students access to our sessions and sporting events all year round. Membership costs €5 for PACES, LAS, PASS, second and third-year medical and maieutic students. Registration is free for the upper years. Registration is possible all year round, either online via the Pumpkin application, or live at the start of a session or before events: it's as easy as downloading the application and creating an account with the code ASMM.

Can you tell us a little about the election of the 2020-21 board?

A new board is elected internally each year. The majority are third-year medical students, plus one midwife student. The current board is made up of :

  • Tristan Georger: Chairman
  • Juliette Cuminal: secretary
  • Cécile Burgalieres: Treasurer
  • Romane Barbier and Nicolas Rouvière: vice-presidents in charge of partnerships
  • Pietro Rosso: Vice-Chairman in charge of meetings
  • Aurélien Clamens: Vice-President in charge of communications Midwife
  • Amandine Sautel and Matthieu Branchereau: vice-presidents in charge of medical communications

Point COVID-19

The current health crisis has led us to rethink our sessions, notably by no longer practicing team sports. And by separating participants into groups of 10, then 6, to limit the spread of the virus and protect our members. Barrier measures (masks, hydro-alcoholic gel) are also strictly observed during our sessions and events. We also encourage outdoor activities, such as our running sessions. We also work with partner sports establishments to offer activities in small groups to our members, who can enjoy them whenever they like (bowling, climbing, escape game, laser game, etc.). We've also set up instagram live yoga sessions, which combine student well-being with limited group activities.
