We thank you for your understanding and wish you a wonderful summer!

Every five years, a new dean's team, made up of vice-deans and project managers, is appointed by the dean to represent him or her in defined missions. This year, Pr Émilie Olié has been appointed Student Well-Being Officer. Read her interview here: find out more about her background and the projects she hopes to implement as part of her mission!

You have been appointed by Dean Isabelle Laffont to the position of Student Welfare Officer. Could you tell us a little about your background and your speciality?

I'm a psychiatrist specializing in mood disorders and suicidal behavior. Having studied medicine in Paris, I then completed my internship and psychiatric clinic in Montpellier.

As far as my background is concerned, a few years ago I developed a real interest in the well-being of students. We set up a project involving psychotherapy sessions to prevent burnout among medical students. In this context, the Dean Mondain appointed me to act as referent for the former CNA (Conseil National d'Appui - National Support Council) for the quality of life of health students, and this was renewed by the Dean with the new CNA-ES, followed by the position of project manager.

How do you plan to reconcile your work as a project manager with your other professional obligations?

I think that my activities as a project manager and my professional obligations are quite complementary. As part of my specialization, I'm asked to provide guidance or even support to students - who are in psychological difficulty. I intend to put my skills to good use for the benefit of student well-being.

You're in charge of student well-being. What are your contributions and objectives? What projects would you like to bring to fruition?

The first area of action concerns psychological health: reinforcing psychological support within the Faculty, whether in terms of listening or guidance, raising awareness of existing aid mechanisms, and setting up training initiatives for students and administrative staff to help them identify and guide people in difficulty.

The second area of action concerns the implementation of measures to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

What motivated you to accept this appointment?

Firstly, because it's a great cause: we want students to flourish in the Faculty, and to make sure that their studies are synonymous with positive moments. Secondly, because my appointment as Student Well-Being Officer is perfectly in line with my speciality, which aims to improve the daily lives of people in distress.

The AD@lY association and the Faculty are honored to welcome His Excellency Mr. DINH Toan Thang, Vietnamese Ambassador to France, on Tuesday June 14.

On June 1, 2022, the School of Geriatrics and Gerontology was inaugurated in the Faculty of Medicine's Bâtiment Historique. We were able to celebrate this achievement in the presence of Isabelle Laffont, Dean of the Faculty; Jacques Mercier, VP of theUniversity of Montpellier; and Nicole Marin-Khoury, Deputy Mayor of the City of Montpellier.

A unique school in France...

The project, spearheaded by Professor Claude Jeandel, Director of the School of Geriatrics and Gerontology; Doctor Stéphanie Miot, Deputy Director; Myriam Aggoun, Administrative Manager; and Marie-Laure Portalez, Design Engineer, represents the first school of its kind in France.

Indeed, this school was born of a societal observation: we are facing a real demographic challenge. This is reflected in an aging population and an increase in the number of people losing their independence (2.45 million in 2060, compared with 1.6 million in 2030). In view of these societal, medical and scientific challenges, it has become essential to offer appropriate training in gerontology, aimed at students and professionals in the sector.

In order to offer a cross-disciplinary, holistic approach to the problems of old age, a diversified range of training courses has been created, featuring innovative teaching methods in the sector's various fields of application (medical, epidemiological, psychological, legal...).

... and innovative

Stemming from the IDEFI-TIL program (Initiatives d'Excellence en Formations innovantes - Trans Innov Longévité) initiated in 2014 at the Faculty, the Faculty of Medicine's gerontology training courses have already enabled many medical and paramedical professionals to specialize in this sector.

Innovation is at the heart of the School of Geriatrics and Gerontology's priorities, with courses adapted to e-learning. From simulation workshops are also organized once a year. Last but not least, former students from the various courses provide tutoring.

The elderly will also be involved in the teaching process, and some training courses will be designed for them as part of therapeutic education.

4 main training areas

  • A hub for healthcare professionals

For professionals in the healthcare and medico-social sectors.

  • A center for doctors and medical students

Coordination of medical school teaching units

  • A center for caregivers

    Training, awareness-raising and support initiatives

  • A hub for patients

Chronic disease training and therapeutic patient education
